Analyzing the cause of Metro Manila Traffic

This week is the worst week for riding the MRT. The MRT was delayed for 2 out of the 4 days I have to ride it and this is because of other broken trains blocking the rail. I was stuck inside a train for 10 minutes before it began to move so I began to reflect the very inefficient transportation system in the country.

Why would everyone want to ride the MRT is the first question. There are 2 important benefits in riding the MRT. First, MRT is faster compared to riding a bus. Second, its cheaper. So who wouldn't want to ride in the MRT?

Once you realize that people go for value for money, you will realize that a lot of people don't bring their own vehicles. You will also realize that there is not enough fast, reliable, and cost effective ways to travel through out the city. Why??

EDSA ( the biggest and longest highway in the metro, that connects different cities together) always have a big traffic jam. WHY? It's not because of the buses that stop anywhere it want. It is more of the private vehicles occupying 4 or 5 lanes out of the 6 or 7 possible lanes. Do a little more observation and you'll see that each private vehicle have a single passenger. So, if a bus occupies the road space of 2 cars and holds more or less 30 - 50 passengers while 2 self-driven private car which have a total of 2 passengers, you will realize that private cars are causing the volume of traffic to increase unnecessarily. But what does the government do? MMDA creates a lot of rules for these buses expecting that fixes and dicipling them will fix the problem, but it never did. Improve by a little percentage, maybe...

Go to Singapore or Hongkong and you'll find less private cars, but why do we have more private cars in the Philippines? I think its a problem not related to traffic. People think of their safety. The metro is not safe and a way of keeping ourselves safe while travelling is by using a private cars.

Traffic seems to be the problem, but it might be a symptom of the real problem.

The government has to make the Metro secure and pedestrian friendly.
The transportation system should be reengineered. Deploy more buses, use the MRT more efficiently, and create strict regulations for the use of private vehicles.
Encourage the use of public vehicles.

Every day is a lazy day...

I live a different life compared to my other MIS friends. They have begun using their knowledge about technology and a lot of them are already stressed. They have began ranting about long hour shifts, and complained about the stress and the changing time zones they have to adjust to. I can imagine how they feel, but I chose not to do it to myself.

I always look at any job as a way to live. It is a way for me to improve myself, to learn something new, and to enjoy life. My current job is not stresssful. I work from 7:30 AM until 5:00PM with one and a half hour lunch. Absolutely NO WORK at home, no laptops, and no remote connections. Though I envy people who can work at home, there's a bright side in leaving work in the office where they're suppose to be. I enjoy being at home, watching TV series every day, and keeping myself updated with the newest movies in Yahoo! Movies.

Every day is a lazy day for me... stress is out, pressure is out. Life has been a lot better since I started working compared to my student life. Aside from the fact that I really miss learning and that's the only thing I miss about school.

Is it good to live a pressure-less, stress-free life? It depends actually. I don't think I've matured compared to my batchmates. I bet they're more knowledgeable and more prepared to take on more responsiblity as they gained more experience . As for me, I work 8 hours, I blog, I surf the net, I do other projects, I watch TV series, movies and hmm... I sleep after doing everything. I think about the future, I reflect on what I can do and hm.. I do a lot of research. So, which is better? Maybe its too early to say right now. But I'm enjoying what I'm doing now, and that's enough for me to say that I'm in a better position right now. I don't have a lot of perks to brag about, but I can brag that I don't have any complains about my job aside from some lazy days.
