A Filipino-Chinese businessman was kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf... it's quite a concern for me because I am a Filipino-Chinese myself.

If you guys know the daily devotion called the Daily Bread… you could have read this entry I am about to talk about. It is entitled… A Changed Landscape.

I may not be able to quote the author line by line because the book is not with me. The main idea of the article struck me because of the comparison it did between Genesis 1 and Matthew 4. In Genesis 1, the devil tempted Adam and Eve, God lose his beloved creation to the devil. In Matthew 4, the devil came again, knowing that God is going to save the people from eternal damnation, the devil tried to tempt Jesus. We all know what happened next.

Do you see the contrast?

1. God and the devil have consistent characteristics in the Bible. Where God is, the place is beautiful and enlightened. Where the devil is, there is suffering, sin, and wilderness.
2. Think about where Adam and Eve were when the devil came, in a paradise called Garden of Eden, the devil came and turned it into an ugly place – a place full of shame, and sin. Think about where Jesus was when he was tempted. He was in the wilderness, the desert, the turf of the devil. He was tempted, but did the devil win again? No! Jesus overcame temptation and won the war against sin once and for all.

God means eternal victory. Devil might have won in Eden, and might be winning in today’s world with all the sins all over, but Jesus has won the eternal victory for us. We just have accept that we have been redeem and we are all victorious!

Whenever we’re faced with trials and sufferings, I think looking back on this contrast will mean a lot. Don’t let the devil win us over, put our whole trust in God and we will have eternal victory.
